This period kicked off with Dr Anand Gurung MBBS, GWS mobile doctor being attached to this AWC. Over the four weeks he traversed areas of both Syangja and Parbat with either the AWO or one of his assistants and treated around 217 welfare and service pensioners, mostly elderly welfare pensioners (in their 80s and 90s).

On 4 Mar, the AWO was pleased to present on behalf of the Field Director two large packs containing an assortment of books donated by ‘Room to Read’ to Nubahakot Secondary School, Bhanjyang Village, Bahakot VDC. Then on 6 Mar, the AWC hosted local dignitaries and people from the community to its annual drinks party, which included a presentation by the AWO on GWS activities. Mr Nandikeshar Tripathi, the Chief District Offi cer (CDO) was the chief guest.
The next day on 7 Mar, Lt Mark Jeffery REME and his team arrived for the Syangja leg of EX HIMALAYAN BLUEBELL 09. The AWC team would like to thank them again on behalf of all the staff and patients of Syangja District Hospital for their superb on the spot maintenance and repair work. The AWO would however enquire with the team whether Sgt Bow was able in the end to dismantle and take back with him in his hold baggage a Royal Enfi eld Bullet 350cc motorcycle, which he was contemplating
doing after seeing the AWO’s machine!

Welfare pension paying week followed when 741 welfare pensioners ponverged onto AWC Syangja to collect their quarterly Rs 11,400 and receive free medical treatment. Crispin and Susie Hughes, the GWS photographers from UK, had a fi eld day on the Monday taking pictures. Finally, the AWC also investigated and processed two applications for hardship grants for houses having been destroyed by fi re, presented a wheelchair to a service pensioner courtesy of HQ GWS/KAAA, and had a hardship grant recipient from the previous quarter complete the rebuild of her house, which had been in a state of near-collapse.
