Welfare Pensioner (WP) Rifleman Abir Thapa aged 84 years lives with his youngest son’s family in a remote village called Maulabang of Gam VDC in Rolpa. On 27 Nov 08 at around 6 p.m. whilst the adult members were inside the hut the grandchildren were playing with fire outside the house. Suddenly the bundle of thatching straws that were against the wall of the house caught fire and the strong wind spread the flame to the thatched roof of the house. The fire quickly spread to rest of the house but fortunately no one was hurt and they managed to salvage some of their belongings but were unable to save the house.

WP Abir reported the incident on 8 Dec 08 during his quarterly pension payment at Patrol Base Bhalubang and Capt(Ret’d) Jitbahadur Thapa, SAWO Butwal immediately initiated an investigation to confirm the damage and to estimate the cost of building a new house. The Fd Dir GWS quickly approved a grant of NCR 76,500 and the new house was built before the onset ofthe monsoon season.

Now the family have a new home and all family members, relatives and the village community are very grateful towards this generousand timely support that exemplifies the ethos of the  GWS.
