KAAA BGN PROJECTS COMPLETED IN FY 08/09
For many years, KAAA BGN has been assisting to improve the lives of people living in rural areas of Nepal through many Community and Individual Aid Projects. Trail Bridges, Cliff Tracks, Drinking Water Supply, Micro-Hydro Electricity and Solar Home Lighting System are main Community Aid Projects. In FY 08/09, KAAA BGN constructed 20 Trail Bridges, 1 Gravity Ropeway, 6 Cliff Tracks, 12 Drinking Water Supply Projects including 2 Electric Pump System, 5 Micro-Hydro Electricity and 4 Mills (Oil expeller,Rice Huller, Flour Mill) in addition to numbers of repair and maintenance of old projects. A brief introduction of few representative projects carried out in FY 08/09 are given below.

Bridge to Sustenance: Lack of a permanent bridge over Dhyamja Khola situated in a remote area of Gorkha district was the main obstacle to fields, education, health care and markets for villagers of Chumling and Chhekampar. The temporary wooden bridge constructed by the local people used to be swept away frequently in the past. Now, this problem has been solved with a permanent suspended bridge built by KAAA BGN.

Water for Life: Villagers of Dabche Village in Shree Krishna Gandaki VDC in Syangja District remember their past days
that women and children would spend their most of the time in fetching water from a well located at some half an hour distance below the village. They had never dreamed of water to their doorstep by pumping from the source that is located below the village. But something that they never dreamed of has happened in Dabche Village after KAAA BGN recently completed construction of an Electric Pump Water Supply Project. The water has been lifted to 277 m (915 feet) with a pump run by electricity. Some 750 people of Dabche Village have been directly benefited from this project. “Water is life. Our difficult days are over from now onwards and our lives have been made easier by KAAA BGN project. We are very grateful to KAAA BGN”, said Mr Hira Bahadur Gaha, Chairman of the Users Committee.

Electrifying Rural Villages: Jagat Village located in Sirdibaas VDC in Northern Gorkha has been lit up by generating 35
KW electricity from a local river Bhalu Khola, which is the largest Micro Hydro Project ever built by KAAA BGN. Some
130 households have benefited from this project. Where Micro Hydro Electricity Project is not feasible, feasibility of Solar Home Lighting System is assessed and provided if found to be suitable. However the primary purpose remains same in both projects that is to electrify the rural villages.
Access to Track: KAAA BGN is also supporting for the construction of Cliff Tracks in many hilly areas of Nepal. One of those includes recently completed Dejom Danda Cliff Track which is some 350 m long and links Ri and Lapa VDC in Northern Dhading. “With this cliff track, we are not only able to pass mules with laden loads but has also shortened the walk by some 2 hours as compared to the earlier detour route”, said Mr Lal Bahadur Tamang, Chairman of the Users Committee.

Ropeway

Gravity Ropeway: The main purpose behind the construction of this ropeway is to carry goods from the lower station to the upper station and vice versa. Villagers of Supchet and Ulchet in Lapa VDC of Dhading saw the first Gravity Ropeway built by KAAA BGN. With the lower station at Supchet Village and the upper station at Ulchet Village, this  Gravity Ropeway can carry goods up to 40 Kg at a time within 2 to 3 minutes by applying a gravity load of 130 Kg and  hauling over a distance of 1,520 m (5,020 ft.) at an elevation difference of 490 m (1,620 ft.) between two stations.

Conclusion: KAAA BGN would like to serve you with many projects in your area in the days to come. Requests for any of the above mentioned project(s) can be made at the Area Welfare Centre (AWC) offices.
